In addition to having all the award data that was available on the previous site, the updated USAspending.gov provides financial data. This new financial data includes summary information about the government’s total amount of budgetary resources (the amount the government can spend) and the amount spent (obligations and outlays). You can explore the new financial data by budget category (e.g., Defense, Health), federal agency (e.g., Veterans Administration), and spending category (i.e., Personnel, Contracts, Grants).
In addition, you can dive into the details of individual federal spending accounts (which are similar to checking accounts); this will help you understand how the money is spent on individual contracts, grants, loans, direct payments, and other awards. Our updated site has a fresh look and feel that reflects the clarity, transparency, and openness promoted by the DATA Act. As we updated the site, we consulted with users (like you!) to make sure we’d be delivering the most useful, enjoyable experience possible. We’d love to hear your feedback — share your suggestions in our community.
