Hi Lindsay  - Thank you for your questions.

    1) Multiple DEFC values, like N and Q, indicate the agency reported the funds from multiple fund sources.

    2) We can track the amount of an award overall funded by COVID-19 funds, but we cannot reliably determine that in each transaction.

    3) We have noticed some some award outlays are higher than the obligated amounts. We recommend you contact the awarding agency about this question.

    Thank you.

So, to be clear: if I download by transactions and sum by obligated amount funded by COVID 19 supplementals, would I be double (or triple, etc) counting awards that have multiple transactions?

In other words, can I sum this by transactions and come up with a useable number? I've looked and the sum I come up with is close to, but not identical to, the total amount shown under the time tab for the results.

Hi Lindsay - Thank you for your question.

The total amount shown under the Time tab is calculated by summing the "federal_action_obligation" column for each transaction.

The sum for the column, "obligated_amount_funded_by_COVID-19_supplementals_for_overall_a", represents the obligated amount funded by COVID-19 supplementals for the award. Each award can have multiple transactions

Thanks. I guess what I am not clear on is, if I want to find the total $ awarded to an agency by COVID disaster funds, what data and field do I use?

Hi Lindsay - Thank you for your question.

Your previous questions have been about funds an agency has distributed as awards.

To find the total amount appropriated to an agency for COVID-19 you should look at total budgetary resources. We recommend you start by reviewing the COVID-19 Spending page at https://www.usaspending.gov/disaster/covid-19?publicLaw=all

The Data Sources & Methodology page at https://www.usaspending.gov/disaster/covid-19/data-sources will help you pull the data your need for total budgetary resources.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

I'm sorry, my question was sloppy. Let me try again.

What field do I sum to get awards BY an agency (so not apropriations but contracts), to find the portion that was appropriated under COVID supplementals? And do I need to sum by transaction, or by award (in other words, which do I download)?

Hi Lindsay - Thank you for your question.

It appears that you're using Advanced Search.

On Advanced Search, use the Disaster Emergency Fund Code filter and select "COVID-19 Spending". This will limit the awards to COVID-19.

We recommend download transactions and sum the federal_action_obligation field to calculate the obligated amount.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.
