Taxpayers, upon filing taxes, should receive a receipt that details not only how much they paid in taxes, but what services they and the country received from those taxes. If these services are valued, people might be surprised to learn that they receive more value than they've contributed in taxes. If taxes are viewed as an investment in our fellow Americans and the country, perhaps our attitude toward them will change.
The accountability that accompanies this feedback might also encourage policymakers to promote more effective and efficient spending of our tax dollars.
In the meantime, if you could provide a calculator that allows people to input their tax spending along with some other details, and receive an approximation of the number and value of services they receive, this could serve a similar purpose (albeit on a much smaller scale).
